The seed for what is known
today as ICAN Institute, Inc. was first planted while Deb
Erickson was teaching in the Albuquerque Public School
system. She became aware that the teens she met
with every day needed more guidance than any teacher could give them
in the classroom. In 1990 Deb launched her first
business Expanding Horizons, in which she focused her
attention on awakening teens to their full potential, inspiring them
to make good choices, building their self-esteem, and teaching them
how to overcome the barriers that blocked their pathways to
success.
As Deb’s dreams
grew, she reached out to a wider audience, expanding her business to
offer programs to adults (teachers, coaches, counselors, and group
sponsors) who worked to assist young people with developing
leadership skills. So it was that in 1992 she
founded Breakthrough Learning Systems, Inc. in which she
introduced her board-breaking activity that has become her
hallmark. Under this banner, she traveled across
the country delivering keynote speeches at state conventions and
conducting leadership workshops for national youth
organizations.
Late in 1993, Deb’s reputation as an
exceptional speaker and trainer in the areas of team-building,
leadership skills, and personal development spilled over into the
business community, and she began conducting keynote speeches and
motivational seminars for national associations, corporate retreats,
and annual business conventions.
Deb’s evolving
vision dictated that she take her company to the next level by
expanding the services and creating more tools to assist her clients
in implementing the many techniques and philosophies presented in
her keynotes and seminars. In 1996, ICan
Institute was born.
A decade later Deb Erickson
of ICan Institute, Inc. has become a much-sought after speaker and
trainer, traveling across the nation inspiring people with her
adrenaline-pumping performances, empowering people with her
practical coaching counsel, and building corporations with her
effective training sessions.
