I have spent the better
part of 25 years working with hundreds of companies across the
country. I have worked with government agencies, non-profit
organizations, small businesses, and Fortune 500 corporations. I
have had the pleasure of coaching CEOs, speaking to board members,
training upper management, and teaching front‑line employees.
In
the fall of 2005, I met a business owner who captured my
attention.
He was unusual in his vision for his
company, commitment to his own personal and professional
development, attitude of expectancy, and his belief in possibilities
when everyone around him doubted his dream. I
quickly saw evidence of his persistence and tenacity, his high
ethical standards both for his company and for himself, his
willingness to walk his talk, and his dedication to his staff and
business partners. When doctors told him to get his affairs in order
because he didn’t have long to live, he proved them wrong, beat the
odds, and came through it with the grace and strength that is the
hallmark of a true
champion. To say he impressed me is a gross
understatement. I felt drawn to him and his company knowing that
this was a man who understood the meaning of commitment. This was a
man who was dedicated to make a difference in the world, both for
his own team and for their customers. This was a man who had a huge
vision. I knew I wanted to be on his team to help him achieve his
dream. The man about
whom I am speaking is Jeffrey R. Smith, President and CEO of
PrimeSource Mortgage, Inc. (PSMI), headquartered in Roswell, New
Mexico. After 11 years of banking experience and
earning his graduate degree in banking, he joined the PrimeSource
Mortgage, Inc., a Texas-based company in1994 and opened his own PSM
branch in Roswell, New Mexico. Jeff had big
dreams to grow his own business, and that dream became reality in
1998 when he took over the reigns as president.
Under his leadership, this small family-owned company soon
grew to include a network of 26 independently owned and operated
branches in six southwestern states. In the summer of 2005 PSM Holdings, Inc.
was incorporated in Nevada and became the parent company for PSMI
and its branches. In October, the board of
directors announced that the company had gone public and
over-the-counter shares became
available. |
In the last two years, I have
spent an ever‑increasing amount of time as a consultant, coach, and
speaker for PSMI, working with every aspect of this organization.
Prior to the 2007 PSMI National Convention where
I presided as master of ceremonies and keynote speaker, Jeff and the
board of directors asked me to be an ambassador for PrimeSource
Mortgage. They have become my national sponsor, allowing me to
spread my message and their name across the country. It is a perfect
match for me and ICAN Institute, Inc. because these leaders embrace
my “can do” philosophy; they possess a grand vision full of passion
and promise; they push the leading edge in innovation; they are
committed to do whatever it takes to succeed; and they live the
spirit of team. Extraordinary customer service is their cornerstone,
and they are committed to constant and never‑ending improvement. I
am so excited to be the national ambassador for PrimeSource Mortgage
because Jeff, his board, and his staff are living examples of all
the success principles I hold
dear.
